Bell Bottoms
I saw this trend last year at some magazines. Most people I know did not go into it. Again this year it looks like it is back but stronger. All the clothing catalogs I received last week are selling bell bottoms jeans and bell bottoms jumpsuits. Would you dare to wear them? I think I will maybe with the right platform shoes.

Simplicity pattern 4070
I finished this dress a couple of days ago. There were lots of modifications.
First, I wanted to make it a bubble dress just like the picture in the pattern. When attached the two skirts together I noticed there was too much difference between the skirts measurements. I mean the lining was too small. I followed all the instructions. Maybe there was an error in the pattern. It did not make any sense to me. So I just made a regular skirt.
With the bodice I did not have many problems. I did not use boning, to me it looked more complicated if I decided to use it and I don't think I needed it. At the end even though I took all the measurements on my body and on my twin, I feel the dress is not too fitted. I have been experiencing problems with all the dresses I have make using a size 14 pattern which is suppose to be my size since I have a 36 size bust but I may need to use patterns in a size 12 and maybe the results will be better just by making a few alterations next time. I did not use the belt either.
My iron is not working very well, so the dress is not well pressed. I may take another picture in the future. I still don't know if I will wear this dress soon or have any place to wear it at. I wanted to finish this project since I had it on my "things to do list" for so long.

Was this really glamorous?
I have mixed opinions about how the First Lady dresses. I really liked what she wore during the day, but I noticed she wore black shoes. Someone told me they were not black, but dark olive. I think her choice of shoes was a "blah" as I usually say about DC and Northern Virginia fashion style. Her inauguration ball dress did not impress me that much either. I questioned why was she wearing spring colors? We had yellow and then white ( I liked the morning dress, don't get me wrong)during a very cold weather. This woman has very tone arms and I think she shall show them proudly (applauses). I also wonder if there is someone assigned to help her build her wardrobe, someone like a personal shopper or stylist...I just wonder.

Good choice!
Michelle Obama wore a dress by the Cuban designer Isabel Toledo. I like the color and the design is very flattering. I was surprised to hear that the dress she wore during the election night was also by another Latin American designer named Narciso Rodriguez. My opinion is that today's choice was better than that other dress she wore back in November.

A very long weekend
This will be a very long and cold weekend. Here in Northern Virginia the temperature was on the teens today. Schools remained open thou, so I had to go to work. Fortunately this weekend is going to be very long. We are observing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday on Monday and the Inauguration on Tuesday. I have no plans for Tuesday either. I will stay home and watch the inauguration at my house. Definitely I am not planning on moving more than 15 miles from my area on that day. There are reports that traffic is going to be crazy and they are recommending people to use the metro if planning on going to DC. Well, I will use my day off to sew...maybe.

Spring shirts from McCall's Patterns
It is time to start planning on what to wear for the spring. I found this cute shirt patterns while browsing the McCall's website. I looks like wearing loose shirts will continue to be a strong trend for this spring.
I particularly like this one. I may buy this pattern.
I like this style but I have seen it before.
This is definitely one that I may start sewing soon.
This is style is cute but it screams "maternity".
This is also very cute, but I saw a lot of this shirts last year everywhere and I mean everywhere!

Trust me on this one!
All right I mentioned it before...the 80's fashion influence is going to be very strong for 2009. I ask you know, would you dare to wear a jumpsuit? I am not talking about those ugly carpenter style denims jumpsuits, I mean those stylish and sometimes very dressy jumpsuits that were so popular in the 70's and the 80's. They look great with heels!
Rihanna looks lovely with this floral summer jumpsuit.
This is one of my favorite styles, not a big fan of Mary Kate Olsen thou.
