I am back!

A lot happened to me last month. Being pregnant is not as easy as I thought it will be. I tried to do some sewing, but because I was working and had to come home and worry about what to cook for dinner and other stuff, sewing became secondary on my schedule. Finally, my mom came to visit about three weeks ago and she have been helping me. So, mom and I went to Joann Fabrics and purchased some fabrics to do baby receiving blankets. Also, for my birthday my husband bought me a new sewing machine since I have been complaining so much about my not so old Brother Sewing Machine. It was just that I was hating all the problems it was giving me with the bobbin. Anyway, I got an electronic Singer Confidence Sewing Machine. Very nice!

Finally, I stopped working. Today was supposed to be my last day, but I had an emergency during the weekend. Everyone thought I would have my babies this week. I was having preterm labor and was taken to Bethesda and stayed there until Tuesday afternoon. Let me tell you, being three days on a liquid diet while connected to an IV is not fun. All I kept thinking, beside being worry about what was going on is about how unprepared I am due to the fact that I was working and was waiting to stop working so that we could start moving my sewing room to the basement and start painting and decorating the babies room. Now I am on bed rest for two weeks at least. Hopefully my husband will take care of everything.
I been lucky enough to have a baby shower at work. I got lots of clothes for the babies and other things from my baby registry. I am posting some pictures.

Hi Lizz. Welcome back! I've been watching your blog every day was praying that all was well. I sent you an email a couple of days ago. Bethesda is a little haul from your neck of the woods. :-) (even for me,and I'm in MD). Nice machine. I can tell that you love JoAnn's. You would love the new one in Brandywine (on Crain Hwy just before going into Charles county). It's a superstore. I pass by it 3x per week from the doctor's office and it's tempting not to ask my Mom to stop the car! We have stopped by a couple of times already. Take care!

I forgot to add that I did not buy this Singer machine at Joann Fabrics. My husband got it on line.

One thing I don't like about Joann is that the 40% off coupons cannot be use to purchase "big" stuff like sewing machines. So I got a better deal.

Hi there,
I found your blog last week and I have been reading past posts. Alterations are so expensive around here that I decided to start sewing. So far I have a machine (borrowed from sister). I hope I can learn something this weekend. I am very excited. Anyway, what books would you recommend for a person who has never used a machine or saw before (I can do buttons manually :) ).

Have a nice weekend!

P.S. I am also from NOVA.

Grace,
I think the books from Singer are very good for people who are starting to learn how to sew. Now that I am at home I will get one of my books and review it for you.
I don buttoms manually, I think most people do. Buttom holes is another thing. :P
